Il mio amore ed io in Italia |
I've spent my year since graduation exploring how best I'd like to use my studies. Throughout this time, I worked several part time jobs involving language education. I was invited back to work as an adjunct at my alma mater, Florida Atlantic University, to continue where I left off as a teaching assistant. Soon after I began there, I realized I needed to take on more than my one university course. I began teaching ESL at Uceda English Institute where I worked closely with adult learners ranging from beginner to advanced levels in the evenings. While I enjoyed working with my students, the night schedule was not agreeing with my lifestyle. However, it was a memorable experience and one from which I took many insights.
In the end, my true love was found at last in an opportunity to actually work on a language learning game project. The very professor who taught my Second Language Acquisition Course recommended me to a contact with McGraw Hill as a student who had specialized in games for learning. As it turns out, they had also caught wind of this rising star in education and were beginning development on a game for use in conjunction with University level Spanish courses. I was invited to help as an advisor on the development of quests and currently have continued into the realm of testing completed quests.
More recently I have volunteered to help write blog posts for a great new start up company that provides language resources for individual learners. Keep an eye out for my posts at Linguistadores with fun advice for anyone learning a language.
In the end, I'm just very grateful for all these great opportunities and can't wait to see where life takes me!
